Our Story

I’ve always had a desire to work in travel from the young age of 16, and a career assessment test confirmed this. However, my high school guidance counselor swayed me away warning that the internet would be readily available and soon everyone would be booking their vacations online.

That was in the 90s.

Fearful of starting in a dying profession, I pursued other avenues, but the travel bug bit at a young age and that itch needed scratching!

Enter 2007…

After countless weekends cooped up in a camper with three kids under the age of 5, desperate for a change of pace and desire to see new sites, I researched travel agencies and found no one was hiring.  I enrolled in travel school and Divine Destinations was born.  Twelve years later and almost 50 stamps in my passports, I’ve made it my mission to be the expert or Diva, in destinations I recommend to my clients.

On a recent trip, I was able to see a swim out suite at a popular resort for honeymooners.  I was shocked to see the “swim out” included a patch of grass and sidewalk between the patio and the pool, not to mention it was located next to the bustling area of the restaurant’s kitchen!  Anyone can do a google search but there is value in someone who can say they’ve been there and have the pictures to prove it!  You don’t always know what you’re getting when you book a vacation for yourself online. And there’s a reason why a deal is a deal.

My passion for Romance travel shines through in the attention to details that go into Destination Weddings, Honeymoons, Vow Renewals, and Couples Getaways.

Recently, I published a book called ‘Couples That Travel Won’t Unravel’. Part 1 of the book is designed to help engaged couples decide if a destination wedding is right for them and how to plan the perfect honeymoon.  It progresses in Part 2 as a battle cry to fight for all marriages through the art of being intentional in the land of over 50% of marriages ending in divorce, including my own after almost 20 years.  You may have seen my palm tree bikini-clad car roll down the highway a time or two!

My strong love of the islands has driven me to become a Certified Sandals Specialist and Weddingmoons Specials, Hard Rock WOW Specialist, Jamaica Travel Specialist and St Lucia Travel Specialist amongst many other industry accreditations.

I’ve been the recipient of many awards for travel agency excellence including Delta’s Diamond Elite Agency, Funjet 500 Club, Couples Choice, Preferred Sandals Agency, Best of the Best,  Travel Weekly Magellan Award.  When is the last time you won an award for booking travel?  We did!

My favorite music is reggae and dancehall and you can find me at any venue where this music is playing from Minneapolis to Sumfest! Currently, I reside in Esko with my family. I love to travel to islands where the only ice I can find is in my freshly muddled mojito! Where do you want to go next?”

Jennifer Maki
Owner, Agent

I’ve been in the travel industry for 12 years.  Numerous weekends I found myself at the campground with the kids yet I was dreaming of much more magical weekend escapes than these.  So I enrolled myself in travel school and then began the job search but quickly found out that travel agencies were not hiring!

An entrepreneur since I was a little a girl, I took it upon myself to open my own travel agency!  My first corner office was in my house and then I was the first tenant at the new coworking Regus Office space in downtown Duluth.  After acquiring Skyline Travel in 2017 and expanding our staff, Divine Destinations moved again dangerously close to Cold Stone Creamery up by the Miller Hill Mall.

Travel Advisor

I hold travel near and dear to my heart. I grew up always going on adventures with my family whether camping trips to the Black Hills, a family reunion to Lake Tahoe, a road trip to Indianapolis, or a trip to Hawaii. No matter the size of the trip, it always excited me because each time I came home learning something new or meeting new people.  I became a travel advisor because I remember those trips I took with my family much more than a gift they gave me for Christmas or my birthday. Travel brings people closer together and creates memories and bonds that last long after returning home!

My absolute favorite place I have ever been to is New Orleans, Louisiana! The excitement, live jazz, crazy street performers, and ghost stories that linger the old buildings seem to get better and better every time I visit!
